House of Commons Recognition
14th Feb ’13
We had some fantastic recognition of the work we’ve been doing in the local community yesterday, from none other than the Prime Minister David Cameron, with Freedom gaining House of Commons Recognition.
Our MP for Watford, Mr Richard Harrington, with whom we’ve been working, stood up during Prime Ministers Questions to raise the Watford Community Exchange It’s a local initiative that is taking place tomorrow, focused on connecting community organisations, charities, volunteers and businesses like ours.
We’re getting involved by dedicating our time to helping some of the local community organisations, part of our on going support for the local community in Watford.
By working with local communities, other businesses like ours can make a valuable contribution to their local area, helping to drive citizen engagement and make plans and initiatives a reality.
We’ve pulled out a few quotes from Mr Harrington, and you can watch for yourself from 30 minutes and 30 seconds into the video embedded below.
Richard Harrington, MP for Watford:
“I know the Prime Minister’s aware about the Watford Community Exchange which is happening on Friday, which is a meeting between 50 businesses and 50 charities and community organisations. And I hope the Prime Minister will congratulate Chris Luff of Freedom Communications, who have already offered 150 hours of their time to help local charities including Westfield Community centre. And I do hope the Prime Minister will encourage all colleagues and ministers to initiate these proceedings in their constituencies, because it’s the Big Society in action.”
David Cameron, Prime Minister:
“I think my honourable friend is absolutely right, a very large part of the Big Society is businesses coming together to help voluntary groups and charities in local communities. And I think it’s excellent that he’s doing that good work in his constituency and I pay tribute to all those that are joining him. And as I said earlier it is good news that volunteering is up, charitable giving is up, the Big Society’s getting bigger.”
