In early 2010 Freedom Communications were approached by a leading high street bank in regards to a project that the company was working on for the separation of their rail finance business unit from the main group.
This organisation are one of only three major rolling stock companies in the UK, financing services such as operating leases, procurement, refurbishment, and maintenance improvements. In total the company manages over 4000 vehicles as well as an in-house team to maintain them.
CHALLENGE
Technology was one of the key elements involved in the separation of the two businesses as none of their existing infrastructure was to be transferred in this process of creating the new company. Therefore a new infrastructure had to be designed and specified for 95 users taking into account the client data that had to be migrated from the current business as well as future business demands that may be placed on the system.
THE SOLUTION
Following an extensive investigation phase Freedom Communications provided the company with a specification for the required replacement infrastructure as well as a detailed project plan to ensure that all necessary deadlines were met in order to facilitate the sale of the business.
Based around Hewlett Packard infrastructure a new server and storage infrastructure we specified and installed making use of the latest technologies from Microsoft (2008 Server, Office Communications Server, SharePoint) and virtualisation solutions from VMWare, offering the client a highly resilient core for future business growth. Alongside these technologies Freedom also implemented solutions from a wide range of industry leading technology providers including Safend, MessageLabs, Websense, and Vasco (2 Factor Authentification).
Freedom will provide on-going Managed Services to the business to ensure that the infrastructure is well managed and maintained as well as offering the business strategic business advice in relation to technology.
