The Bodgit Budget

31 March 2010

As we like many other companies, and indeed the public sector, approach our year end, attention turns to next years budgets and forecasts.

Freedom enjoys a broad and deep customer base including SME’s, corporates, public sector organisations and some high profile charities all of whom will have different priorities in the coming year. But what did the budget outline for the future? Fans of Only Fools and Horses may well be familiar with the expression ‘brace yourself Rodney’ for that is what all three parties have set us up for. Before prosperity comes austerity.

Various combinations of taxes and sound-bite pledges are all amounting to the same thing and as every day passes a coalition seems more likely. One point is true though and that is that we are all in this together.

This is set to be a tough year for all as most look to do more with less but since when has that been news? Organisations’ working together with a common goal of reducing costs whilst laying the foundation for growth are a formula for success and always have been. Well planned technology projects can deliver but only when the right partners and the right solutions are selected.

As Clare Frost alluded to in her previous update, it is the users of technology that will tend to define the direction of technology spend especially if they are engaged in the process to help reduce costs. They can help decision makers invest in technology that truly makes a difference to a way in which an organisation works within itself.

It’s a good year to work together. Effective collaboration, both internal and external is key and I intend to promote it as much as possible.

And as the Queen officially opens Parliament and welcomes the new government, change is still very much the topic of the day as we wait to hear the true impact on public sector spending ...
